Sharing our stories: John

Duncan and Shona have been encouraging folk to share their private faith stories at the Sunday evening gatherings – and at the service on Sunday Duncan told us a tiny about the Christian influences which helped shape him as a youngster.

Here’s my contribution to the story sharing – an short article which I was lately invited to create for the Nomad Podcast Weblog.

The beautiful factor is that we are all unique, we all have unique stories. And but the additional we grow to be actually ourselves, the additional Jesus is observed in our lives.

I just came across two beautiful expressions of this yesterday in Father Timothy Radcliffe’s new book Alive in God: a Christian Imagination.

1st he quotes Thomas Merton, addressing a group of novices in his monestary:

What you came right here for is to grow to be your self, to uncover your comprehensive identity, to be you. But the catch is that of course our complete identity, as monks and Christians is Christ. It is Christ in every single of us…I’ve got to grow to be me in such a way that I am the Christ that can only be the Christ in me.

And then Father Timothy quotes ancient Jewish wisdom:

When a human getting tends to make quite a few coins from one particular mould, they are all the identical, but the supreme King of kings tends to make just about every human getting in the identical image, but all are unique.

Is not that great – every single of us, with our personal stories, our personal background, our personal struggles can express a thing of Jesus a thing distinctive to us!

We are valuable! Our stories are valuable! Let’s go our these days and invite Jesus to embody himself in us, in all the messy reality of our lives these days.
