Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, stated the men and women who portray him as an opponent of Pope Francis are getting utilized by the devil to assist divide the church.

“The truth is that the church is represented on earth by the vicar of Christ, that is by the pope. And whoever is against the pope is, ipso facto, outdoors the church,” the cardinal stated in an interview published Oct. 7 in Corriere della Sera, an Italian day-to-day.

The 74-year-old cardinal, who Pope Francis appointed in 2014 as head of the workplace overseeing liturgical matters, generally is portrayed as a critic of Pope Francis, in particular mainly because of the cardinal’s cautious attitude toward welcoming Muslim migrants to Europe, his concern about the church acting extra like a social-service agency than a missionary church and his regular strategy to the liturgy.

“The truth is that several men and women create not to give witness to the truth, but to location men and women against a single a different, to harm human relationships,” he stated. “The truth does not matter to them.”

“These who location me in opposition to the Holy Father can not present a single word of mine, a single phrase or a single attitude of mine to assistance their absurd — and I would say, diabolical — affirmations,” Cardinal Sarah stated. “The devil divides, sets men and women against every single other.”

Cardinal Sarah stated it is typical for the church to experiences troubles and divisions, but every single Christian is known as “to seek unity in Christ.”

“I would add that every single pope is suitable for his time,” the cardinal stated. “Providence appears following us really effectively, you know.”

Nevertheless, Cardinal Sarah’s new book is filled with warnings about how a lack of faith, trust in God and adherence to tradition is threatening the Catholic Church, specifically in Europe and the wealthy West. But he in particular focuses on clerical sexual abuse and how that has meant “the mystery of betrayal oozes from the walls of the church.”

Nevertheless, in the chapter, “The Crisis of the Church,” the book involves the cardinal saying, “I would like to remind everybody about Jesus’ words to St. Peter, ‘You are Peter and on this rock I will develop my church’ (Mt 16:18). We have the assurance that this saying of Jesus is realized in what we get in touch with the infallibility of the church. The spouse of Christ, headed by the successor of Peter, can reside by means of crises and storms.”

Noting that some Catholics “are rapid to hurl anathemas at these who do not adhere to their line of believed,” the cardinal stated that it is time “to rediscover a bit of peace and benevolence. Only faith, self-confidence in the magisterium and its continuity down by means of the centuries can give us unity.”

Catholics now will have to ask themselves if they really think the faith the church usually has taught, the faith of their ancestors, is nonetheless valid now, Cardinal Sarah told Corriere. “We are known as to rediscover the truth of these (teachings) each with the incomparable evaluation of Benedict’s believed and with fantastic and sunny industriousness of Francis.”
