This week the gospel reading in the lectionary is John 21, The Breakfast at the Beach.
I’ve heard it mentioned that it requires 3 years to be present in a spot and make great good friends. It might take even longer now that individuals do not go to standard jobs daily, but operate in coffee shops and practically. 3 years. Jesus’s ministry with his disciples was that lengthy or a bit longer. Jesus changed the lives of the disciples, their entire worlds. Jesus rocked their point of view and changed their perspectives on anything. No wonder they have been confused when he died, afraid when he reappeared ALIVE, and nonetheless questioning what they have been to do subsequent even right after the Resurrection.
It provides me comfort that Peter requires some of the gang fishing. Peter goes back to what is familiar and what he knows how to do. Some thing that tends to make sense to him. However, they do not catch any fish. They fish all evening and catch nothing at all. Then the Stranger (who turns out to be Jesus) shows up on the beach and invites them to fish on the other side of the boat.
Am I prepared to fish once more exactly where Jesus tells me to fish?
Even when i have fished all evening?
Am I prepared to LISTEN to Jesus?
Am I prepared to jump out of the boat to swim towards Him? Even if it indicates leaving my good friends in the boat?
My favored aspect of the John 21 story is that Jesus currently had fish cooking on the grill. He genuinely didn’t want their fish mainly because Jesus currently had breakfast prepared for Peter and the other guys.
Jesus knew they’d be hungry.
Jesus offered what they necessary physically and then Jesus offered what Peter necessary emotionally also.
Do I think? Can I think that Jesus knows my demands?
Can I think, am I prepared to trust, that Jesus has breakfast currently cooked and prepared for me in my life?
Am I prepared to TRUST that the RESURRECTION is for me also?
Right after the abundant catch, and the picnic breakfast, Jesus reminds Peter of his get in touch with. Jesus provides Peter the “what’s next” and let’s Peter know that his betrayal wasn’t the finish of the story.
Jesus asks Peter if he enjoy Him. And Pete says 3 occasions, you know that I enjoy you Jesus.
Jesus knows that I enjoy Him also. Jesus knows that I have doubts, fears, and significant anxieties and He knows when I betray Him and Loves me anyway.
He hasn’t forgotten me.
Jesus hasn’t forgotten you either.
Jesus fortunately knows the WHAT’S Subsequent for all of us!
Are we prepared to be prepared to wait on the what subsequent with Jesus?
Study John 21 once more. If there is a lake or some water close to exactly where you reside, go sit beside the water and study the story out loud. Picture the scene. Notice the sights and sounds about you, and feel about the sights and sounds that surrounded the disciples that day at the beach. What do you notice? What have been the conversations like?
Maybe take a picnic with you to the water, or you could have fish tacos or even fish sticks for dinner and go over John 21 with your good friends, family members or roommates. You can also use goldfish crackers a symbol of your willingness to fish once more and trust in Jesus to show you what is subsequent!
Right here are some concerns from the Prayer Station for John 21 located in the Sacred Space Prayer Knowledge called “At the Table with Jesus”
The Picnic Table Breakfast at the Beach
Jesus cooks breakfast for you…He knows what you want and He delivers a picnic for you!
Take into consideration the conversation prior to they went fishing. Peter and the guys had knowledgeable intense loss and now intense joy …knowing their savior was alive.
However their lives have been uncertain, their futures unclear. What have been they supposed to do now?
What did Jesus becoming alive genuinely imply? Are we dreaming?
Picture the conversations in the boat. What concerns did they have?
What are your concerns for Jesus?
Inform him. Speak to him.
Do you want Jesus to give you directions for your future?
Do you want to know what’s subsequent?
The beauty is that Jesus knows his disciples and he offered for them. He didn’t genuinely want their fish.
He’d currently offered a table for them…a PICNIC table!
How has Jesus currently offered for you? Create this down on a paper plate!
Feel about this. Speak to Jesus about this. Thank Jesus for how he’s offered for you!
Consume some fish (gold fish if you are undertaking this as a prayer station) as a reminder that he holds the future and that he is supplying for you.
He is currently cooking breakfast for your tomorrow! ©lillylewin ©freerangeworship
