If God had perceived that our greatest need to have was financial, he would have sent an economist. If he had perceived that our greatest need to have was entertainment, he would have sent us a comedian or an artist. If God had perceived that our greatest need to have was political stability, he would have sent us a politician. If he had perceived that our greatest need to have was well being, he would have sent us a medical professional. But he perceived that our greatest need to have involved our sin, our alienation from him, our profound rebellion, our death and he sent us a Savior. (emphasis mine)

We can’t […] define Christians merely as these who are awake although the rest sleep, but additional cautiously as these who waken up in the sense that they are awakened a 1st time and then once again to their shame and superior fortune. They are, in reality, these who continually stand in need to have of reawakening and who rely upon the reality that they are continually reawakened. They are therefore these who, it is to be hoped, continually waken [sic] up.
The sleep from which they awaken is the relentless downward movement consequent upon their sloth. Like all other folks, they participate in this movement, dreaming a lot of wonderful or negative dreams but not genuinely realizing what is taking place to them. When they waken, or are wakened, they expertise a jolt which each arrests them in this movement and sets them in the counter-movement. They realise exactly where their way was major, that they ought to not tread it any additional, and that they now can and ought to take the opposite path. In this occasion and realisation—which are each integrated in the shock that they receive—they wake up for the 1st time—which will definitely not be the final. In this awakening they come to be Christians—men who are now cost-free, and who make use of their freedom, to appear up and raise themselves. The verse two Cor. five:17 is accurate of them as this occurs: “Old factors are passed away behold, all factors are come to be new.” For in this awakening they are “in Christ” in the narrower sense of the term as it applies only to them.

The Lord can give repentance to the most unlikely, turning lions into lambs, and ravens into doves. Let us appear to Him that this good adjust may perhaps be wrought in us. Assuredly the contemplation of the death of Christ is 1 of the surest and speediest techniques of gaining repentance. Do not sit down and attempt to pump up repentance from the dry properly of corrupt nature. It is contrary to the laws of thoughts to suppose that you can force your soul into that gracious state. Take your heart in prayer to Him who understands it, and say, “Lord, cleanse it. Lord, renew it. Lord, function repentance in it.” The additional you attempt to create penitent feelings in your self, the additional you will be disappointed but if you believingly assume of Jesus dying for you, repentance will burst forth. Meditate on the Lord’s shedding His heart’s blood out of really like to you. Set ahead of your mind’s eye the agony and bloody sweat, the cross and passion and, as you do this, He who was the bearer of all this grief will appear at you, and with that appear He will do for you what He did for Peter, so that you also will go out and weep bitterly. He who died for you can, by His gracious Spirit, make you die to sin and He who has gone into glory on your behalf can draw your soul soon after Him, away from evil, and toward holiness.
I shall be content material if I leave this 1 believed with you appear not beneath the ice to obtain fire, neither hope in your personal all-natural heart to obtain repentance. Appear to the Living 1 for life. Appear to Jesus for all you need to have in between Hell Gate and Heaven Gate. By no means seek elsewhere for any component of that which Jesus loves to bestow but bear in mind, Christ is all. (emphasis mine)

Bonus quote from A.W. Tozer:
Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary lists 550,000 words. And it is a solemn and wonderful believed that in our worship of God there at times rush up from the depths of our soul’s feelings that all this wealth of words is not enough to express. To be articulate at particular instances we are compelled to fall back upon “Oh” or “O!”—a primitive exclamatory sound that is hardly a word at all and that scarcely admits of a definition.
Vocabularies are formed by a lot of minds more than extended periods and are capable of expressing what ever the thoughts is capable of entertaining. But when the heart, on its knees, moves into the amazing Presence and hears with worry and wonder factors not lawful to utter, then the thoughts falls flat, and words, previously its faithful servants, come to be weak and entirely incapable of telling what the heart hears and sees. In that awful moment, the worshiper can only cry “Oh!” And that easy exclamation becomes additional eloquent than discovered speech and, I have no doubt, is dearer to God than any oratory.
