Now there was a garden in the spot exactly where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no a single had ever been laid.

Andrea Mantegna, 1457

Is it absolutely nothing to you, all you who pass by? Appear and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was brought upon me, whom the Lord has afflicted. Lamentations 1:12

God of all mercy,
we confess that we have sinned against you,
opposing your will in our lives.
We have denied your goodness in each and every other,
in ourselves, and in the globe you have designed.
We repent of the evil that enslaves us,
the evil we have performed,
and the evil performed on our behalf.
Forgive, restore, and strengthen us
by way of our Savior Jesus Christ,
that we may well abide in your like
and serve only your will. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins by way of the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the energy of the Holy Spirit retain us in eternal life. Amen.

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to assist us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the starting, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

If feasible, light a candle right here.

Hymn: O Gracious Light

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all instances to be praised by content voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified by way of all the worlds.

Psalm 40:1-14

1 I waited patiently upon the LORD *
you stooped to me and heard my cry.
two You lifted me out of the desolate pit, out of the mire and clay *
you set my feet upon a higher cliff and created my footing positive.
three You place a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God *
quite a few shall see, and stand in awe,
and place their trust in the LORD.
four Pleased are they who trust in the LORD! *
they do not resort to evil spirits or turn to false gods.
five Fantastic items are they that you have performed, O LORD my God!
how wonderful your wonders and your plans for us! *
there is none who can be compared with you.
six Oh, that I could make them recognized and inform them! *
but they are a lot more than I can count.
7 In sacrifice and providing you take no pleasure *
(you have provided me ears to hear you)
eight Burnt-providing and sin-providing you have not essential, *
and so I mentioned, “Behold, I come.
9 In the roll of the book it is written regarding me: *
‘I like to do your will, O my God
your law is deep in my heart.’”
10 I proclaimed righteousness in the wonderful congregation *
behold, I did not restrain my lips
and that, O LORD, you know.
11 Your righteousness have I not hidden in my heart
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your deliverance *
I have not concealed your like and faithfulness from the wonderful congregation.
12 You are the LORD
do not withhold your compassion from me *
let your like and your faithfulness retain me secure for ever,
13 For innumerable troubles have crowded upon me
my sins have overtaken me, and I can’t see *
they are a lot more in quantity than the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails me.
14 Be pleased, O LORD, to provide me *
O LORD, make haste to assist me.

Psalm 54

1 Save me, O God, by your Name *
in your may well, defend my trigger.
two Hear my prayer, O God *
give ear to the words of my mouth.
three For the arrogant have risen up against me,
and the ruthless have sought my life, *
these who have no regard for God.
four Behold, God is my helper *
it is the Lord who sustains my life.
five Render evil to these who spy on me *
in your faithfulness, destroy them.
six I will present you a freewill sacrifice *
and praise your Name, O LORD, for it is superior.
7 For you have rescued me from just about every problems, *
and my eye has noticed the ruin of my foes.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the starting, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

John 19:38-42 (NRSV)

Just after these items, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, even though a secret a single mainly because of his worry of the Jews, asked Pilate to let him take away the physique of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission so he came and removed his physique. Nicodemus, who had at 1st come to Jesus by evening, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. They took the physique of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Now there was a garden in the spot exactly where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no a single had ever been laid. And so, mainly because it was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

Canticle: The Song of Simeon
Luke two:29-32

Lord, you now have set your servant cost-free *
to go in peace as you have promised
For these eyes of mine have noticed the Savior, *
whom you have ready for all the globe to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations, *
and the glory of your folks Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the starting, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

I think in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I think in Jesus Christ,
God’s only son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the energy of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered beneath Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose once again
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the proper hand of the Father,
and he will come once again to judge the living and the dead.
I think in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the physique,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
