I pastor a church plant close to Fort Campbell. I’ve generally preferred for our church to be a church for skeptics. When thoughtful soldiers come to the claims of Christ they are going to have concerns.
- Are not there contradictions in the Bible?
- Is not Christianity just a psychological crutch?
It is critical for the church to address the soldier’s internal objections to Christianity with the highest degree of merit—instead of constructing a weak strawman argument.
Some soldier’s objections to Christianity are…
- “I’ve attempted it prior to, and it did not function.”
- “I do not see how my life could be the outcome of the program of a loving God.”
- “Christianity is a straightjacket.”
- “It cannot be incorrect if it feels so suitable.”
- “I could by no means maintain it up.”
- “I do not really feel worthy I am as well poor.”
- “I just cannot think.”
I have discovered that there are 4 kinds of soldiers that have a challenging time coming to Jesus.
1. The Patriotic Soldier
“I am a red-blooded, flag-waving American—just like Jesus!”
Essentially, Jesus wasn’t an American…or a white man with blue eyes and blond hair…nor was he a black man. He was a Jewish man with brown skin and dark eyes. I inform you this mainly because I think that as soon as you behold the biblical Jesus, you will uncover Him irresistible.
The Patriotic Soldier loves his nation. He would die for his nation. At times, he comes from a extended line of military males and females.
Nonetheless, Jesus does not grant the military access to heaven mainly because of their service. They have to bank their eternity in the empty tomb and the occupied throne just like every person else.
Here’s the challenging truth to swallow: You could die on the battlefield and nonetheless go to hell.
two. The Moral Soldier
“I am not like the guys in my unit.”
“I do not celebration like them. I do not drink like them. I am not them I am additional moral.”
The truth is, nevertheless, that your morality does practically nothing to obtain the favor of God.
There is no a single as well poor for Jesus to save, but there are millions who consider themselves as well fantastic!
God came to seek and to save these who are far away and these who consider they are currently in—like the moral soldier.
You could have your shirt starched and your dress blues on, but on your greatest day you are just a dressed-up sinner.
You should repent of your badness and your goodness! 1 old hymn puts it like this:
Lay your deadly performing down,
Down at Jesus’ feet.
Stand in Him and Him alone,
three. The Challenging Soldier
“I am not weak like you. I do not require religion.”
Soldiers are programmed for war. You know this. Some of you have to detox when you come back from deployment mainly because you are in strike mode!
You could be like Jack Bauer—you could be a single of the most physically and emotionally challenging soldiers in your unit—but when you die you will see that there is a different variety of strength: spiritual strength.
four. The Hero Soldier
“I do not require a hero I am the hero.”
Essentially, according the Bible, Jesus is the hero. He came on a search-and-rescue mission for you. He invaded time and space to save you—because you had been not hero adequate to save your self.
Possibly you have taken a bullet or some shrapnel, but you have by no means faced something like the wrath of God.
The Bible presents you with a dilemma you cannot resolve. It is a sin dilemma. You require the support of a different. You require a Truer and a Greater Hero. You require Jesus!
