As we reflect on the subject of raising the subsequent generation, it is worth to think about this verse in Deut. four.9:
Only be cautious, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not neglect the points your eyes have observed or let them fade from your heart as lengthy as you reside. Teach them to your youngsters and to their youngsters immediately after them.
What does passing the faith on to future generations encompass? God reminds us in His Word that firstly, it starts with ourselves. We are to be cautious, or to give heed to ourselves, and to watch ourselves closely, or to hold our souls diligently. Why is this essential? Our life is our very best witness to the generations immediately after us, not our achievements, not our words or teachings, but the way we reside our lives.
Secondly, we are reminded not to neglect the points we have seasoned, or let them fade (or slip, depart) from our hearts, not just when we are young, or when these God-moments occur, but for as lengthy as we reside. In the quick context, God was reminding the Israelites by means of Moses not to neglect what He had accomplished for them by freeing them from slavery and bondage to Egypt and Pharaoh, and the eventual top to the Promised Land. The identical applies for us. Do we try to remember when we received Jesus as our Saviour and Lord? Do we remind ourselves (and our youngsters) of all that He has accomplished to save us? Do we hold it at the forefront as our motivation for obedience and service to the Lord?
Lastly, we are exhorted to teach God’s laws and what He has accomplished to our youngsters and their youngsters. This does not just apply to Christian parents, but to the complete physique of Christ, that God has placed us and younger generations collectively in. As teachers, as leaders, as a church neighborhood, we all have a function and duty to reside godly and exemplary lives and to teach other folks to do so, for the sake of Christ and God’s glory. May possibly God aid us to connect to His Word, commit to Him and be His persons, shining His light and appreciate wherever we go.
