“This is my command—be powerful and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 NLT
As Joshua was about to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, God had some directions for his folks. God told Joshua that he ought to be powerful and courageous simply because he, Joshua, would be the 1 who would lead the folks to possess the land promised to their ancestors. God told Joshua that no 1 could stand against him simply because He would be there with him all the days of his life. God told Joshua that he and the folks of Israel ought to be powerful and courageous. They would be prosperous as extended as they obeyed the directions that He had handed down to them by means of Moses. They would be prosperous as extended as they stayed on the path God set for them to stick to, with no deviating to the left or the appropriate. They would prosper and uncover results if they studied and meditated on His Word. And then God stated, “This is my command—be powerful and courageous!”
It is the 1st aspect of that statement that truly stands out to me: “This is my command.” God wasn’t saying, “Hey, Joshua, listen. Here’s my suggestion: be powerful and courageous.” He wasn’t saying, “Look, in my opinion, you have to have to do be powerful and courageous.” He was saying, “This is what I anticipate from you. This is what I’m telling you to do. Be powerful and courageous.” It was not a recommendation, it was not a request. It was a command. They had been to be powerful and they had been to be courageous. They had been not to let their fears paralyze them or bring about them to want to give up. Why? Mainly because God would be with them wherever they went. God was larger and stronger than their fears. And He would be with them no matter what enemy they faced, no matter what obstacles stood in their way.
God’s command to Joshua and the folks of Israel is His command to us these days. What ever enemies we could face, what ever obstacles stand in our way, He is there. And simply because He is there, we should be powerful and courageous. We should not let worry get the most effective of us and bring about us to give up. There is no mountain that God cannot assist us climb. There is no darkness that God cannot assist us see our way by means of. There is no enemy that God cannot assist us defeat. When we stroll on the path that He sets for us, when we preserve His Word in our hearts and our minds and obey that Word, we can be positive that He is with us every single step of the way. When we face the enemies and obstacles in our lives with God by our side, there is no cause to be afraid, there is no cause to come to be discouraged. God is higher!
