Point of Exclusion | The Logic of God

Thomas stated to Him, “Lord, we do not know exactly where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one particular comes to the Father except via Me.” — John 14:five-six

With the various religions in the globe, how can Christians claim exclusivity? I am typically asked this query in unique settings. But I’ve usually been fascinated by the reality that the Christian faith is the only one particular that appears to have this query posed. The truth is that just about every religion has its beginning points and its deductions, and these beginning points exclude.

For instance, Hinduism has two nonnegotiable beliefs: karma and reincarnation. No Hindu will trade these away. In Buddhism, there is the denial of the important notion of the self. Buddhists think that the self as we recognize it does not exist, and our ceasing to need will be the bring about of the finish of all suffering. If we deny these premises, we devein Buddhism.

Islam believes that Mohammad is the final and final prophet, and the Qur’an is the ideal revelation. If we deny these two premises, we have denied Islam. Even naturalism, which poses as irreligion, is exclusive. Naturalism teaches that something supernatural or metaphysical is outdoors the realm of proof and purely an opinion, not a matter of reality.

In the Christian faith, we think Jesus is the consummate knowledge of God in the particular person of His Son and is the Savior and Redeemer of the globe. We can’t deny these premises and continue to be Christians.

The query is not no matter if these are mutually exclusive. The query is, which one particular of these will we deny as becoming affordable and constant? Which one particular of these will we be capable to sustain by argument and by proof?

It is the really nature of truth that presents us with this reality. Truth by definition is exclusive. All the things can’t be accurate.

If anything is accurate, then nothing at all is false. And if nothing at all is false, then it would also be accurate to say anything is false. We can’t have it each strategies. A single must not be shocked at the claims of exclusivity. The reality is that even these who deny truth’s exclusivity, in impact, exclude these who do not deny it. The truth speedily emerges. The law of noncontradiction does apply to reality: two contradictory statements can’t each be accurate in the similar sense. As a result, to deny the law of noncontradiction is to affirm it at the similar time. You may possibly as effectively speak about a one particular-ended stick as speak about truth becoming all-inclusive.

So exactly where does that leave us? We will have to not be shocked at truth’s claims, but we will have to test them prior to we think them. If the test demonstrates truth, then we are morally compelled to think it. And this is precisely the point from which several are attempting to run. As G. K. Chesterton stated, “The Christian best has not been attempted and located wanting. It has been located challenging and left untried.”1

Jesus stated definitively,

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one particular comes to the Father except via Me. — John 14:six

Apply the tests of truth to the particular person and the message of Jesus Christ. You see not only His exclusivity, but also His uniqueness.

1. Why will have to truth be exclusive?
two. How does understanding that just about every worldview has exclusive claims effect the way we proclaim the Christian faith?
