Jesus and the ten leopards..

You may possibly be considering – whoops, I’ve created a error in the title of this piece.

But, years ago, when my daughter was small, she did a image in Junior Church that she brought residence and showed me. It was a image of Jesus, she stated, with the ten leopards. And there he was in the centre of the web page surrounded by spotty cats. ‘And only 1 leopard stated thank you for having rid of his spots,’ she stated.

I didn’t have the heart to inform her that it was ten lepers not leopards. Immediately after all, did it genuinely matter no matter whether it was lepers or leopards? My daughter had got the principal point. That only 1 in ten stated thank you.

It is rather shocking when you believe about it. The lepers had been absolutely ostracised from society mainly because of their skin illness – which not only created them shunned mainly because of the threat of contagion but also created them ritually impure and untouchable. And but only 1 leper stated thank you when Jesus healed them all.

No 1 says ‘Thank you’ to Jesus

A lot more shocking nevertheless is that no 1 in the Gospels appears to say thank you to Jesus. We hear a lot of ‘Heal me,’ ‘Help me,’ ‘Save me.’ And Jesus does heal and aid and save quite a few, quite a few men and women. But no 1 says thank you.

It is shocking mainly because ‘thank you’ is 1 of the most essential points we require to say to every single other to keep friendship and connection. We all know how it feels when we aid somebody and they omit to say thank you. We really feel unvalued and taken for granted.

But Jesus never ever complains at the ungratefulness of the men and women about him. He just says rather sadly to the only leper who thanks him, ‘Were not ten created clean?’

Thankfully, St Paul sees the significance of saying thank you to Christ. In his letter to the Philippians he tells his Church, ‘Do not be concerned about something, but in anything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be recognized to the Lord.’

Be thankful

The greatest present I have ever received in my life is my present of faith in Jesus. My faith that Jesus has the energy to bring healing and new life – to absolutely everyone who comes to him. As he has completed in my personal life.

Remembering this tends to make me hugely grateful. So it is excellent and proper to say thank you.

Do not take Jesus for granted. Do not take your faith for granted. Do not take all your blessings for granted and concentrate only on what’s incorrect in life.

Be thankful.

Be like the tenth leper – or leopard – and in fact say it. ‘Thank you!’
